Why should I Use A Live Band? |
Live music provides a visual as well as a listening
excitement that cannot be created by a Disco or a band using backing tracks.
Most gatherings are for formal reasons, and the only part of the evening
people get a chance to enjoy themselves and relax is when the music starts.
A live band can respond immediately to events happening around them and
will encourage people to have fun by entering into the spirit of the occasion.
This is best achieved when the band is live and turns the event into a
party. |
| How many are in the Southern Playboys? |
| Five members, playing Brass Trumpet, Keyboards,
Drums, Lead Guitar, Bass Guitar and all sing as well. |
| What styles of music do you play? |
| Waltzes, Country, Big Band, Swing, 60’s
to Present Day Classics, Rock & Roll, Celtic Rock and include selection
sets from The Beach Boys, The Ratpack, The Blues Brothers, Neil Diamond, Elvis, The
American Drifters, Joe Dolan, Van Morrission and a Disco Set which features
some Ceili. |
| Do you have a Set List? |
| We feel every event is different and has to
be played with the ability to change in order to obtain the best results.
If people are not responding it is pointless playing to a set list, it
is imperative the band have the freedom to change the style to suit the mood. They have a large
number of songs, chosen by the members as proven winners. Their ability
to change has been one of the key features in the success of the Southern
Playboys. |
| For a Wedding, can we request a First Song ? |
| If you give the song to the band 3 Months before
the Wedding Date, they will do all they can to learn the song especially
for you. Closer to the Big Day if you request a first song they have not
played before, you have the option of playing it on CD over the Sound System. |
| Do you have your own Sound & Lighting System? |
| Yes, we own our own top of the range sound system
available from Turbosound, which is the equipment specified by top touring
international acts. We purchased this equipment when we were touring ourselves,
and it allows us Hi-fi sound quality without being loud. |
| When do you set up your equipment? |
At a function we set up the equipment before the guests sit
down for their meal for a number of reasons.
- The sound levels will not be loud..
- The band will be in a position
to start when required, ensuring no long delays while bringing
in and setting the equipment up.
- The guests are not disturbed while
the equipment is being brought in and sound checked.
- No problems
with equipment not working.
- The organisers can relax knowing the
band have set up.
- The band are fresh going on stage, as they are
not tired from lifting the heavy equipment and rushing
around getting it to work.

| How do you dress for each performance? |
| The band has a number of outfits and use different uniforms
for each occasion from casual Party wear to formal tuxedos. |
| How can I hear the band? |
| By contacting us, we will arrange it so you can attend a function
as similar as possible to your own. |
| How far will you travel? |
| While we mainly play the southern region of Ireland, we have
also played the North and the U.K. for functions. |
| Can you play all types of events? |
| As the band are versatile and are a 5 piece they are best
suited to important occasions where people of mixed ages and backgrounds
are present. If, when discussing your event, we may feel we are not suitable,
we will provide you with the contact names of other bands within your style
or budget. |
| What is the cost of the Southern Playboys? |
| While we have a guide price for each event, this varies with
regard to times, location, access for equipment etc. By contacting us however
we should be in a position to give you an immediate quote. |
| Are their any extras or other requirements we should allow for? |
The band enter most venues 3 hours before
and leave 2 hours after the guests, which at a wedding means they can
be 12 hours in the
hotel.
As the band have
a uniform, they will require somewhere to change before and after the
show, and some venues have a purpose built dressing room behind the stage,
if
they do not have a dressing room, hotels normally provide a bedroom. |
| How long do you play for? |
| Every event is different, but weddings are normally 3 hours
inclusive. On the Wedding Day itself the starting times can be varied slightly
to suit the occasion. |
| How do we book the Southern Playboys? |
| Having contacted the office and the date being confirmed,
it will then be entered into the dairy and held for 10 days. During this
time a Contract Of Engagement will be issued to you, and will contain all
the relevant details regarding your booking. Being in agreement with these
conditions, you will sign and return the contract, along with the deposit
specified, within 7 days. |
